the United Kingdom imposes a fortnight on travelers from abroad

It is now official. The UK will impose around 14 on travelers arriving from abroad to limit the spread of the new coronavirus, Northern Ireland Minister Brandon Lewis said on Friday. “People arriving in the UK will have to quarantine themselves” in order to “contain” the rate of transmission of the disease, he said on Sky News. “Obviously, returning British citizens will be able to quarantine themselves at home. Visitors will have to make arrangements to carry out this quarantine for 14 days,” he added.

Exceptions are, however, made for road carriers and medical personnel, as well as for the Irish, but not for travelers arriving from France, as London and Paris had recently suggested. “We take note of the decision of the British government and we regret it,” reacted Friday to hooly News the French Ministry of the Interior on this subject. “France stands ready to put in place a reciprocity measure as soon as the system will actually come into force on the British side,” added Place Beauvau.

A fine for violators

This measure, which will be reviewed “every three weeks” according to Brandon Lewis, must accompany the gradual deconfinement of the country from June 1 in the event of progress in the fight against the coronavirus. It alarms the air sector, already upset by the pandemic. The owner of low-cost airline Ryanair recently called her “silly” and “impractical”. The industry association Airlines UK estimated that about forty would “effectively kill” international travel to the United Kingdom. John Holland-Kaye, the director general of Heathrow Airport, the busiest in Europe, said that quarantine should be “limited in time”.
