Successful conversion bonuses confirmed

The National Council of the automotive professions (CNPA) announced Monday, June 29 that a third of the conversion bonuses had already been spent.

Success is there. More than 30% of the quota of new conversion bonuses, which came into effect on June 1 as part of the automobile support plan, has already passed, announced on Monday June 29 the National Council of the automotive professions. (CNPA). “Between 60,000 and 65,000 bonuses were granted on June 25,” said the CNPA, welcoming a success, in a press release.

This scrapping bonus subject to income subsidizes the purchase of recent vehicles (new or used) in exchange for the scrapping of an old vehicle. Its amount reaches 3,000 euros for a petrol or diesel car and 5,000 euros for an electric. The scheme was capped at 200,000 premiums. Over 30% have therefore already been sold. The idea was to boost the market in the short term to sell off vehicle stocks and thus be able to relaunch automobile production affected by the health crisis. This bonus was part of a set of support measures announced at the end of May by President Emmanuel Macron.

The CNPA stresses that conversion bonuses have so far represented 18% of sales in June, at the rate of around 20,000 bonuses granted each week. “This is an indisputable success, which greatly exceeds that of the ‘first generation’ conversion premium implemented at the start of 2018. The latter generated an average rate of 10,000 premiums per week before being the subject of drastic restrictions in July 2019, “said the organization, which represents 142,000 automotive service companies, including dealers.

The CNPA, which judges the sector “very fragile and the market prospects very uncertain” is working with the government “on the terms of the next conversion premium, which will follow on from the current system”. (…)
